With cinemagraphs being the trendy in the world of social media, I decided to give it a try. The concept was to create an animated mockup for my graphite insect illustrations, something fun to post on Instagram.
Using a wood texture and objects downloaded from Design Cuts, I constructed the stage in photoshop. The file was then imported into Adobe After Effects where steam was rendered using an adjusted preset. Within minutes, the animation was complete. The last step was to import the animation back into Photoshop and save out as an animated GIF.
In the end, I felt that the lower resolution of the animated GIF didn't do the sketch justice, so I posted a high res JPEG instead. However, it was a fun project and the skills might be useful in the future.
